Road Logs Fall 2007

by Charon

This is the first in a category we are calling Road Logs and we will maintain them faithfully along all of our trips. This category contains information we feel might be of use to fellow trailerites, travelers and road warrior princesses.

WEST VIRGINIA

  • I-81 North
    • Exit 16 - Sheetz - A most excellent source of inexpensive fuel and decent food.

MARYLAND

  • I-70 West
    • Exit 24 - Sheetz & Pilot - Pilot truck stops generally have a ton of room for overnighters.
    • Exit 12 - Fort Frederick - A State Park. It costs to camp, but there are facilities and the place is absolutely lovely. Also an excellent annual Buckskinners Rendezvous and Trade Fair every fall for you reenactor types.
    • Exit 3 - BIG truck stop - Not sure of the brand name, but it’s enormous and has great amenities.
    • Exit 1B - Antique mall -Strong recommendation: After driving for four to five hours, STOP and GET OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE. Antique malls are a great way to stretch out, unwind and get your blood moving through all of your driving parts. Also a great place to find props you may have forgotten or need to find along the way. We found my pirate tankard at an antique mall in Florida. The other pirates were very jealous.

PENNSYLVANIA

  • I-70 West
    • Exit 147 - Breezewood Traveler’s Gateway; Pennsylvania Turnpike -HUGE traveler’s stop for R&R, food, reasonably priced hotels and any information and supplies you might need.
    • Exit 146 - Ed’s Family Restaurant & Sheetz - Ed’s rocks. If you have the opportunity, go and eat there, if only for the atmos.
    • Exit 49 - Flying J - Great truck stop. WiFi for everybody, for a small price. They have packages for those who will be on the road for quite a while and are pretty much everywhere.
    • Exit 19B - Wal-Mart - Yes. We know they’re Evil Incarnate, but they welcome RVers to overnight in their parking lots in most states, and you can always think of it in terms of taking up a parking space or two to prevent a potential customer from parking there. Well-lit and by a 24-hour facility, these lots are safer than most places for those traveling alone.

OHIO

  • I-70 West
    • Exit 160 - Love’s - Awesome truck stop chain with fabulously hot showers. Really. We mean it.
    • Exit 62 - Antique mall
    • Exit 59 - Antique mall
    • Exit 10 - T/A - Travel America truck stop. The strip mall of truck stops.
    • MM 3 - Rest Area - Ohio rest areas are amazing after all the refurbishment. Some ven have RV hookups.

INDIANA

  • I-70 West
    • Exit 149B - Love’s
    • Exit 145 - Centreville Antique Mall & Webb’s Antique Mall
