Springfield, OH - George Rogers Clark Park
One of the very first things I remember after the first day on the road is how much I love high-pressure showers. Not that we lack a shower, but our water needs to be used sparingly. Still, I’m in line for a nice washing tonight, no ifs ands or buts.

Setting up the trailer and unpacking the necessities for the first night on the lot in 91 degree heat is taking its toll on us both, but I’m feeling a bit more human after an infusion of Gatorade. I’m prone to be snappy and irritated in extreme temperatures but awareness of this major flaw in my character only does so much to stop it from manifesting. I always feel so terrible after I snap at Alex. There’s never been a more gentle patient and kind individual ever and I always feel like I’ve kicked a puppy when I realize I’ve been short and grouchy. “I’m sorry” only goes so far. You realize this when you’re on the road together and there’s no place to walk away to in order to cool off and no way to avoid being in the same space with the person you’ve just been horrid to.
You learn very quickly how necessary it is to work on the conscious change of old habits, old reactions, things that are unnecessary and inappropriate. It takes a great deal of consistency and work, as does anything in life worth doing, and it makes us into better people, better able to be relied upon and trusted to be steady and steadfast.
We’re set up and the temperature is dropping. Rain is expected tonight and with it a continued drop in temperature. There is time for a store run in a bit, a lot of time to mull over dinner options and many many movies to choose from for a cozy and relaxing night in. Tomorrow I’ll look to the list of things I need to get accomplished. For now, it’s enough that we drove almost 400 miles and arrived in one piece.
