First Weekend in St. Louis

by Charon

Rotary Park - Wentzville, MO
This is an outstanding event. The audiences are generous and love to play, the vendors are varied and skilled, the organizers take amazingly good care of cast and performers alike and the site is lovely, if a bit hilly.

It is my hope to work with this organization again in the spring for the Renaissance Faire and hope they like what they saw on my stage. I shared the pirate ship stage with a sister act called Swords & Roses, two beautiful and skillful women fighting with rapiers in a comedy-combat act. We took to calling our back to back shows the “Women’s Hour of Power” since we were an all female stage and we genuinely enjoyed one another’s company. It is a wonderful thing to work with other adult professionals in this business and we quickly settled into an efficient routine for the weekend. Their cabin boy was instrumental in helping me load in and out that first day and I owe him a debt of gratitude for doing so. One of the organizers also helped me load in that first day and I knew at that moment that I was among a good group of dedicated people.

I had a standing invite to come into the city to visit with Gravity Plays Favorites on Saturday night, but found that I was quite worn out and ached a great deal from my four shows. I didn’t trust myself not to get lost and needed to find a place to clean up and sleep that night out of the cold in addition. I had absolutely no idea where to start I was so ragged out.

Bill and Kathleen from 3 Pints Gone met me as we were loading out and took me under their wing, providing shelter in their hotel room from the cold and taking me with them to a most excellent buffet with a group of their friends and fans from the area. I was exhausted but had a wonderful time even as I struggled t stay awake. I went out like a light as soon as my head hit the pillow. I feel so fortunate to have been able to get to know these wonderful folks. We worked together at the Lee Island Pirate Days Festival but never actually had the opportunity to meet, so we caught up and rectified that situation at this event. They are delightful and generous and I feel very blessed to have made their acquaintance. I hope to know them for a long time to come and enjoy their musical stylings every chance given.

I will be making another attempt to get into the city later in the week to connect with the ladies of Gravity Plays Favorites. They have an original highly skilled act and come highly recommended from our friends back home. I’m hoping to meet them at the club they occasionally work so we can spend some non-working time getting to know one another. I’ll be more rested and much improved as the week continues, much better company too.

Tomorrow, it’s laundry and a ton of PR materials to be made. I have the space and time to do it all so I’m going to sleep to recharge now in preparation for it all.
