Sword swallowers prepare …

by Charon

Getting ready to go on the road is no small amount of work, especially with members of the family who are under the weather and a new addition in the form of a polydactyl cat. We’re managing, trying to keep on top of things while stressed to the brows.

We’re generally pretty good at that sort of thing.

Props are being built, painted, prepared and repaired. Costumes are being sewn, altered and completed. Packing lists are being written, rewritten and added to on a nearly hourly basis. My canvas tent and Alex’ new audio mixer arrived today and my truck’s interior is now completed. I have enormous gratitude to Alex for making that happen. I merely sewed the curtains. Alex took them and put them into my truck to make it into a home. I’ll be posting photos from my own personal Ca d’Zan as we travel.

I am remembering all of us being out last evening with a few other performers for the Dinner Club we began on a whim and an e-mail earlier in the year and realizing what excellent friends we have. It was good to be with everyone before heading out for a time, especially since another Dinner Club member is leaving to return to school in New England for her last year prior to graduation (Way to go, lovely lady! Come home to us soon!). It was bittersweet but a total reinforcement of the investment we all have in one another as friends and the extended family performers form with one another along the way.

It has been a long day with continuous computer, sewing machine and kitchen interaction. I solved the e-mail dilemma with two of our websites. I fixed the sleeves and hem on my polonaise. I got my sword stand together. Alex is in the basement repainting the fire box now the the truck is finished. I am ready to lay back and listen to some vintage radio shows (The Whistler is currently close to my heart … ) with an ultra-smooth martini and our large orange cat curled up by my side. Stories make everything better no matter how hectic the world is around you. I highly recommend them.
